A selection of creative writing courses with local author Tracey Iceton will take place in the autumn for all types of writers, frome emerging to established and in all formats. Some courses are one-off workshops and some are fortnightly sessions, starting in September 2019.

Creative Writing at the Friends Meeting House

This creative writing course offers writers new to the craft an opportunity to develop their skills and more practised writers the chance to hone their wordsmith powers. Sessions will cover key aspects of creative writing applicable to all formats (non-fiction, short stories, scripts, novels and poetry) through a variety of guided writing activities. There will also be a chance for writers to get feedback on their work and develop pieces to publishable standard.
Creative Writing Taster Course

If you have always wanted to write but aren’t sure where to start, if you have been writing for a while but would like to try something different or if you just want to try writing to see if it’s for you this course can help! Tracey will introduce writers, new, emerging and experienced, to the five main types of creative writing: fiction, poetry, script, creative non-fiction and articles. Through a mixture of tutor-led discussions, example pieces and practical activities this course is designed to get writers writing and to open up a wide range of publication possibilities.
Introduction to Creative Writing

For people who are new to creative writing or returning to writing after a bit of a break this course will (re)introduce you to all the skills you need to get started. The course will cover the basics of writing stories, poetry, scripts and creative non-fiction (eg memoirs) and begin to develop the key elements of the craft of creative writing such as being creative with word choice and order, using effective imagery, show don’t tell and mastering the art of good descriptions.

National Novel Writing Month (1-30 November 2019) presents writers, new and experienced, with the challenge of writing a novel (50,000 words) in a month. Join Tracey for this kick-start session designed to help writers get fully prepped and underway with their writing projects. Through a mixture of practical writing activities, group discussions and tutor-led input, this session will ensure that writers of all abilities are ready to tackle the mammoth task of writing a novel. So, whether you plan on doing NanoWriMo or just want to get going with that novel you’ve been promising yourself you WILL write one day, this masterclass can help.

Trace Iceton is a Teesside-based author with a PhD in creative writing. She is an experienced creative writing tutor offering courses for writers at all stages of their writing journey and across a range of creative writing topics, always with a focus on practical approaches to developing the craft of creative writing. She also mentors writers working on specific creative writing projects and offers an editorial critiquing service for those wanting advice on developing their works in progress.
