Life drawing class launches

A new not-for-profit life drawing organisation is launching in Darlington on April 13th.
Lust For Life Drawing is the brainchild of local artist Jonny Lancaster and his partner Grace Wakes.
Held on a monthly basis, each session will invite those who want to try drawing from life without the commitment of signing up to a regular course. The sessions will be untutored, with a relaxed atmosphere and hopefully a few surprises along the way.
Jonny is a self-taught artist and has previously held an exhibition in the Darlington Arts Centre and more recently had a piece at Crown Street Gallery. Some more of Jonny’s work has also being auctioned off to help raise funds for Oxfam through the town’s successful Oxjam Darlo music festival.
Grace Wakes, who is conducting the marketing for the sessions said, ‘For quite a while, we’ve been wanting to add to Darlington’s already flourishing arts scene and thought of what better way than organising casual life drawing sessions. We’re aware that there is a several other life drawing classes happening in Darlington and we encourage people to attend them if they want to learn something more structured, however we hope to offer something different. It’ll be a very relaxed affair with music playing, artists can get a drink from the bar and just draw what they’d like.”
Lust for Life Drawing’s first session is set to be held in the Hole in the Wall’s spare room with female life model Chris. Chris has modeled for art classes for 15 years after first seeing an ad in a local newspaper. Chris says she finds the process therapeutic and “provides calmness in an otherwise hectic world.”
As well as having some regular venues, Jonny and Grace hope to have some sessions at some non-traditional venues around the town in the future and as the year progress, the more imaginative the theme, the better. Eventually, Lust for Life Drawing wants to be able to provide drawing tools for those in the town who don’t currently have the income to afford art materials but still have a passion for being creative.
Entry for the first session at the Hole in the Wall on April 13th costs just £3 to cover the cost of the life model.
