This humour-writing workshop by author Stan L. Abbott aims to help budding writers to develop different techniques of using humour to engage readers in their stories. The workshop will look at the role of humour and its place in the toolbox of different authors in the genres of reality-based fiction, narrative non-fiction and ‘new journalism’.
Stan will use illustrations from his own fiction and narrative non-fiction, alongside an exploration of laugh-out-loud passages in a variety of other works. There will be a short practical exercise for participants, who’ll be invited to take a fresh approach to their descriptive writing.
Stan is the author of a novel The Episode. He is currently working on three non-fiction titles for publisher Saraband, and on his second novel. He has run creative writing classes in North Yorkshire and elsewhere.
