Darlington’s New Orleans Jazz Club under way in style for 2017

Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club have live bands performing eleven months of the year and, because the club is friendly with the organisers of two other northern clubs – Bedale and Boston Spa Jazz Clubs – it means they can put together a northern mini-tour. Next concert. Saturday 1st April 2017 – Brownfield Byrne Hot Six: Inspired by the swing era stylists of the late 1930’s and early 1940’s, the ‘Hot Six’ performs music by the likes of Louis Armstrong, Bix Biederbeck, Fats Waller, early Duke Ellington and the John Kirby sextet, all to their own arrangements. Standout soloists Jamie Brownfield and Liam Byrne energize the band and give it all a really authentic and infectious swing.
Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club meets at St Augustine’s Parish Hall, Larchfield Street, Darlington 12.30pm on the first Saturday of every month except January. Entry is just £10 on the door (no need to pre-book), there a licensed bar, tea and coffee is available, and everyone is very welcome to bring their own food along for a picnic whilst the bands are entertaining.
Doors open at 12noon and there’s the added benefit of plenty of free onsite car parking. It’s also just a short walk from the bus stops on Tubwell Row.
