Darlington Piano Society welcomes Vadym Kholodenko (pictured: ©Ira Polyarnaya) on Sunday 26th January 2020, Central Hall, the Dolphin Centre.
This is Kholodenko’s second UK tour and he will perform more masterpieces of the Russian repertoire alongside sonatas from the classical era and a work by the prolific Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho (b. 1952). This recital is for anyone who enjoys the building blocks of the piano repertoire but who is also open to hearing contemporary pieces.
The society was fortunate to host the young Ukrainian pianist, winner of the Van Cliburn competition in 2013, in his first UK tour in 2017. His performances of works by Liszt, Scriabin and Rachmaninov were outstanding.
The full programme is:
Mozart: Piano Sonata in C minor K457
Schubert: Piano Sonata in A major D664
Scriabin: Preludes – Op 11, (no. 1-5), Op 13 and Op 16
Rachmaninov: Piano Sonata No 2 (2nd version)
- Ticket £14, U21 free
- Available from the society’s website, reception at the Dolphin Centre and on the door at the recital
