DfC chair’s update: 2nd April 2020

To all DfC Members and Supporters

As you would expect, events that we would have been supporting and promoting in the near future have been cancelled, or postponed. It is with regret that the DfC Committee has agreed with Creative Darlington (DBC) to cancel Darlington Arts Festival 2020.

The next Arts Festival will, all being well, take place in May next year. If we are free to congregate again by the end of the summer, we might look at the possibility of running a small, focused event in the autumn.

It also follows that we are not able to announce dates for our next Members’ meeting nor for the AGM. As soon as we can, we will be in touch.

Grants available
On a more positive note, DfC is still able to provide grant support for arts projects via the Small Grants Scheme. In particular, viable projects that will attract people to the town centre later in the year will receive favourable attention.

Keeping in touch
While some of us enjoy a little more time to ourselves, it’d be good to hear how you are engaging remotely with your arts groups and social activities.

For instance, Darlington Choral Society has postponed its Spring Concert to 19th September. So, not to be outdone by Gareth Malone, the group’s Musical Director Richard Bloodworth is continuing to rehearse the entire choir (more than 80 people) on Wednesdays via the video application Zoom. It is free to use with multiple people for up to 40 minutes. For details, visit the Zoom website.

  • If anyone reading this update needs support – practical or social – the Darlington Community Support Hub is available for you to contact, Monday to Friday from 08.30 to 17.00 and at weekends from 09.00 to 13.00. Call 01325 405000.

With very best wishes,

Jo Potter for DfC Committee
