blimey! Darlington artist collective are holding a series of artist talks throughout 2013. These talks are an opportunity to hear invited artists describe their creative practice, working methods and influences. The May artist talk will take place at 7pm, upstairs in Darlington Central Working Men’s Club, 7 Beaumont Street, Darlington, DL1 5RN. The Etching Group ( The Press Gang) uses various etching techniques on metal plates and use a heavy roller for printing. The Group is not teacher-led so anyone wishing to join must have previous experience of etching techniques. It meets 10am – 4pm on the first Saturday in the month at the Bridge.

The Art Shop Bondgate, has kindly agreed to showcase local artists over the four Saturdays in May
Sat 4th May, 10-12noon Carol Greenwood – monoprinting Carol Greenwood lives in Darlington. She works from her converted garage where she makes etchings, collagraph and mono prints. Each finished print is a one off and is a result of combining layers of colour, over printing, using stencils and adding collage. Carol will be demonstrating mono printing at the Art Shop and selling her prints on a stall in the market place on 19th May.

Sat 11th May- “Hand Stitched & Printed Textiles with Anna Cole” Drop in workshop & demonstration, with handmade items for sale. 10:30am 12:30pm & 1:00 – 3:00pm
Free to come along, see the artwork and watch the artist at work. £1.50 to take part in the workshop – make a printed and stitched brooch. Anna Cole is a textile and print artist, creating hand printed fabric, textile accessories and quilts. On the 11th May Anna will demonstrate how she uses hand carved rubber stamps to print fabric, and there will be the opportunity to create your own stamped and stitched brooch. Drop in workshop suitable for ages 5 and up (some ha,nd stitching will be required). No booking required.
Sat 18th May- Gina Morton at The Art Shop.10am. – 12 noon & 1 – 4 p.m. Artist showcase. Gina paints traditional watercolours and highly detailed miniatures, which have won many awards. She tackles a wide range of subjects including local landscape, farm/domestic animals, and figures and finds inspiration from visits to such places as Beamish Museum.

Darlington Society of Arts is holding an exhibition of its work in the Art Gallery in Crown Street Library from Sat 4th May until Thursday 6th of June. Entry to the exhibition is free and it is open Mondays & Tuesdays 9.00 am. – 6.00 pm Wednesdays and Fridays 9.00 am – 5.00 pm Thursdays 10.00 am – 6.00 pm and Saturdays 9.00 am – 4.00 pm. Some of the works will be for sale.
Founded in 1922, Darlington Society of Arts celebrated its 90th birthday in 2013. It has evolved from an exclusive group of artists to what it is today – a lively set of people aged from young to 91, amateurs and professionals who enjoy a variety of art activities together. Club nights are on Wednesdays 7pm – 9pm at Hummersknott Academy. There is also a monthly rota for members to exhibit and sell their work in Darlington Building Society on Tubwell Row. All dolled up

Maggie Smith is to hold a workshops at her Studio at 54, North Road, Darlington. All Dolled Up involves making dolls from simple shapes to decorate and embellish with scraps of precious materials, beads and found objects creating unique characters. Basic machine and hand sewing skills are required.
The groups will be small with plenty of support and encouragement. Maggie’s workshops will be from 10am – 3.30pm on week days and cost £35. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. The Studio will be open from 10am to 6.30pm for people to drop in and see where it all happens. 30-45minute workshops throughout the day (pre booking necessary as space is limited). Michelle Douglas has been making jewellery for more than 30 years and teaching for the past 15. Her classes range from individual tuition to small groups. children’s party to girls’ night in, and ages 8 to 80+.

ARTISANNE, the gallery can be found in Clark’s Yard, one of Darlington’s historic lanes between High Row and Skinnergate.
Pieces of original art from a varied range of art work as well as some very limited edition prints are on sale at reasonable prices.

Joint exhibition of etchings by Geoff and Rachel Proudlock, which will run from 2nd May – 17th May. Rachel and Geoff are part of an etching group that used to meet at the Arts Centre, but now meets once a month at The Bridge. They will be showing an eclectic selection of images, each in their own style
